Hiiumaa, 2014

I want to tell you something.

There are two big islands in Estonia. One of them is magical. Time flows differently there. A day has exactly as many hours as you need and the nights are full of grasshopper music and small blue lights.

That's what Hiiumaa has always been for me.

After three fantastic days with friends, I took the bus to my aunt and uncle. I've never been there with just them, only when their kids have been there. It was amazing to hear their stories. I love, love, love my family.

We swam three times a day, I read two books, travelled a bit, rode a bike for the first time this year, fed sheep, ate berries, wrote stories, inspired by the island and the stories they told. Four days of pure joy.

Thank you to the people who were there with me. Especially Kelly, since it's her birthday and she took some of the photos here. :)

ultra magnetic

one day tija sent me a text she'd done it. dyed her long hair pink.
i was very-very excited. now was my perfect chance. i sent out a plea to lend a 50mm lens... and, to my absolute surprise, a girl from my class -- eva -- said her sister has one and that i can have it.

jumping up and down and other expressions of excitement ensued.
i even got getter to meet us. she helped us with the make-up and styling, filmed, provided awesome company and ideas. she even made us a prop!

it was absolutely awesome. i fell in love with the 50mm and i will definitely start saving up money for the 50mm f1.4 -- though the temptation to simply get the four times cheaper 1.8 (which i also shot with)  is enormous. but i know i will want to upgrade anyway and having both would be a waste. to dreams!

(getting a dlsr was a dream at first, too.)

i also finally figured out how to add the followers widget -- feel free to become one. i'd love you forever. (i'll love you for reading this anyway, so it's maybe not that good of a deal. huh.)

finally, i'm (kinda) sorry there were so many pictures (even if it's a fraction of the 400 i had initially) -- for some, i simply loved the mood too much to leave the picture out, even if it didn't have that good of a focus. sorry. it was my first real shoot and i'm freaking proud anyway.

 thanks for being here, looking/reading!

maybe if i fall asleep i won't breathe right

i feel sad and i don't know why.
i keep looking through photos and they are so so beautiful.
and i keep thinking if i can ever be like that
i read norwegian poetry today and even though it takes so long for me to translate, it's the most soothing thing i've done in the longest time.
and imagine dragons helps a lot too.

that's saara on the picture, my twin dachshund.

getter - march 2013

getter neetar – fashion designer and tailor, england lover and one of my oldest friends.

our mums were very good friends in college (and us only babies) and we invited each other to our birthdays. we saw each other twice a year - april 24th and october 17th. three or four years ago we met for international museum day because we both wanted to go and neither had anyone to go with. and now we have our this tradition each year. and we also call each other up for anything worth doing.

we have so much to talk about. we sit in various cafés and talk for hours and hours.
getter is the single most ambitious and hard-working person i've ever met. she won two big national fashion contests with her collection this year and placed second on the third one. she sew the clothes she was wearing herself. of course.

she's an inspiration.

i actually never got to publish these photos - they were meant for some kind of interview thing that we missed the deadline on - but it was a blast making them and an epic learning experience for me. in example (1) i had no idea my camera could capture snowflakes and (2) while shooting and after this, i learned a lot about iso. i also bought 8gb memory card shortly after this. a hundred pictures isn't nearly enough.
